Nashville Property Talk: Floor Plans

There are so many floor plans available to homeowners, and we know it can be daunting to choose when building your dream house. We thought we’d revisit the trends in Nashville floor plans, and what homeowners might consider when planning their dream home.

Here are a few floor plan trends we’re seeing a lot of:

One of the current trends for homeowners is utilizing the open floor plan. Open floor plans are commonly seen in newly built homes, and are an ideal layout for families and entertaining friends. They create an open environment for gathering, while allowing traffic to flow seamlessly throughout the home. The arrangement of rooms, and how they flow into one another, is key for privacy as well as connectivity. For instance, you may want your children’s rooms to be near the bonus room, but the master to be on the other side of the house.

Another trend in floor plans we’re noticing is the elimination of formal entertaining spaces, like the dining room. Once considered essential (particularly in the South), these rooms no longer serve as the heart of the home. The kitchen often occupies that role in today’s homes. The good news is that if you keep the space in your floor plan, you can opt to turn it into a functional room, such as a study, library, or office. Some families even convert it into a playroom.

With the kitchen serving as the heart of the home, and the rise of cooking shows and food networks inspiring many homeowners, it’s no wonder there is an increased interest in upgrading kitchens to gourmet quality. Larger islands, extended cabinet and counter space, double and convention ovens, and plenty of room to gather friends and family are showing up in more and more builder trends for 2015.
