Today is the first of March and guess what’s right around the corner?
Spring! And the Nashville real estate market is about to gear up again for another busy spring selling season. We understand many potential sellers have been waiting for the warmer weather to list their homes. In our years of experience we also know that many people start listing around the same time each year, which means more competition on the market. If you are considering putting your house up for sale, perhaps it’s time to ask yourself: is your house ready for the market?
1. Your floors and walls are ready
Are your carpets cleaned? Tile and hardwoods scrubbed? How are the walls? Make sure holes are patched, there are no visible spots showing. In fact, we highly recommend a fresh coat of paint in as many rooms as possible. Nothing makes a home feel fresher and more up to date than newly painted rooms and clean floors.
2. You’ve reduced the clutter
If you’ve been spending your winter cleaning closets, your attic and your garage you are well on your way to being ready to list that home. Experts recommend removing at least a third of the unnecessary junk and extra objects. Focus on de-cluttering highly visible areas such as countertops, bookshelves, master closets and pantries. This not only makes the home appear cleaner, but also larger by creating the allusion of more space.
3. You’ve cleaned
So, you’ve cleaned the floors and walls and reduced the clutter, you should be done right? Not so fast. Time to scrub every other inch of the home and take care to clean up the outside and landscaping. Make sure windows are clear, walkways are cleaned off, and landscaping is neat. Every home buyer wants a pristine home – no dust bunnies or grimy window panes. This will really add to the overall curb appeal of a potential homebuyer.
4. You’ve done your homework
The last sign your house is ready for market is that you’ve done your homework as a home seller. You have a decent idea about the market, you know what homes in your area are selling for, and you have a plan for what to do if your home sells quickly.
